Schistosoma mansoni infection and its association with hepatitis B virus in Keryab Village
نویسندگان
چکیده
The study was conducted in Keryab village to investigate the association, if any, between S.mansoni infection and hepatitis B surface antigen. The study revealed that the overall infection rate was 15% (45 out of 300 stool samples examined). The prevalence in females was higher than that of males (17.8% and 13.4respectively). The highest infection rate (17.5%) was reported among the 11-15 years age group while the infection was less (14%) among the 16-20 years age group, and lowest infection (11.1%) was reported among the 5-10 years age group. On the other hand, 20 blood samples out of 300 were positive for hepatitis B surface antigen which constitutes 6.7% prevalence rate. The highest rate of hepatitis B surface antigen (10%) was reported among the 16-20 years age group while the infection was less (6.25%) among the 11-15 years age group. Out of 45 positive S. mansoni cases, 11 were found positive with hepatitis B surface antigen which constitutes 24.44% of the positive cases. On the other hand, 9 positive hepatitis B surface antigens were found among the negative S. mansoni cases which constitute 3.52% of the negative cases.

Antioxidant effects of gold nanoparticles on Schistosoma mansoni induced granuloma, in vitro
Objective(s): Schistosomiasis and hepatitis C virus [HCV] co-infection is common among the Egyptian population. Co-infected patients have higher rate of chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The aim of the present study was to investigate the potential role of gold nanoparticles on granuloma in vitro. Materials and Methods: In the current study, granulocytes were isolated f...
متن کاملAssociation between Hepatitis B Virus Infection Outcome and HLA-A and DRB1 Genotyping in North Part of Iran
Background and Objective: The outcome of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection may be influenced by host factors like Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA). We have investigated HLA-A and DRB1 alleles in patients with persistent hepatitis B infection compared to subjects who had spontaneously recovered from HBV infection. To complete the findings of this study we performed another survey in certain HLA ...
متن کاملInhibition of Hepatitis B Virus Replication during Schistosoma mansoni Infection in Transgenic Mice
Although coinfection of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and Schistosoma mansoni is a frequent event in humans, little is known about the interactions between these two pathogens. S. mansoni infection induces T helper cell type 2 (Th2)-type cytokines in the liver of humans and mice. The intrahepatic induction of nitric oxide (NO) and Th1-type cytokines, such as interferon (IFN)-gamma and IFN-alpha/beta,...
متن کاملCo-infection of Schistosoma mansoni/hepatitis C virus and their associated factors among adult individuals living in fishing villages, north-western Tanzania
BACKGROUND Schistosoma mansoni and Hepatitis C virus (HCV) are co-existence in sub-Saharan Africa and co-infection is common among humans population. The immunological responses characterized with Th2-immune responses for S. mansoni and Th1-immune responses for HCV are responsible for development hepatic morbidities in infected individuals. However, the co-occurrences of S. mansoni and HCV infe...

Background: Hepatitis is among the major health problems, especially in developing countries. During past decades, the association between type of blood group (ABO) and hepatitis B and C virus has always been discussed. This study was designed to investigate the possible association between type of ABO blood group and chronic hepatitis B and C infection. Methods: In the present analytical stud...
